Feature Article in Southwest Art

So excited to share that I was one of four artists featured in the June issue of Southwest Art. The article focused on "Coastal Creations".

Check out the magazine and see an excerpt of it online:

Little Italy | Artwalk 2018

Another lovely weekend at Mission Federal Artwalk. Thanks to all who came down to check out the new work!

Peter Pots Sugar and Sunflower

I’m loving this little sugar bowl! It’s made in Rhode Island by Peter Pots Pottery, this cool little place near URI. The blue is so vibrant and so great set against the sunflower.

My palette is the same as always, but some colors are left unused for the day. Lots of cad yellow deep, some cad yellow lemon and UB.

Sunset Cliffs Before the Rain

Atmosphere is good!

It’s not always sunny and 75′ in Southern California. We get a fair amount of coastal fog, and that brings atmosphere.  I love these days, too. Those that bring a bit of mystery and let the mind fill in the lost details of the landscape.

My palette is the same as always, but some colors are left unused for the day. The cool red, yellow blue and white dominate. I used all palette knife in this one, practicing losing edges with a hard-edged utensil. I can work fast with the knife, but don’t have to on a day like this- the light stays pretty constant and no real shadows to worry about.

Sunny Winter Day in Ocean Beach

This is a great little spot in Ocean Beach, down by the volleyball courts. A nice view of the OB Pier, too. So fun!

These days, I really enjoy keeping the painting loose and trying to capture the spirit of the day. I kept pieces of the yellow underpainting to ensure the sunny San Diego winter day comes through.
